Sabathani Community Center engaged inBYLT to support long-range facility planning and help position this vital community asset for long-term success. Following a comprehensive Facilities Condition Assessment, multiple improvement scenarios were evaluated through a highly collaborative strategic planning process focused not only on building systems, but on how the facility could better serve the community for decades to come.
The final selected scope included installation of a two-well aquifer geothermal system connected to a new central heating and cooling plant, a new building-wide HVAC controls system, LED lighting upgrades, and targeted interior renovations of key public areas. These improvements significantly increased the usability, comfort, and functionality of the facility while reducing operating costs and environmental impact, allowing more resources to be directed toward Sabathani’s mission and community programming.
Just as importantly, the HVAC and central plant investments were designed to support Sabathani’s growing role as a Community Resilience Hub. By providing reliable, high-efficiency heating and cooling, improved ventilation, and modern controls, the facility is better equipped to serve as a safe, healthy refuge during extreme weather events, poor air quality days, or other community emergencies. These infrastructure upgrades enhance the building’s ability to remain operational during times of need, ensuring Sabathani can continue delivering critical services, resources, and gathering space when the community relies on it most. The result is a more welcoming, efficient, and resilient facility that strengthens Sabathani’s role as a cornerstone resource for the community.
